I am still packing and running late. But let me give you the link to my trip to Patagonia 10 years ago. It should keep you amused until I come back with new rants.
Have to figure out whether to take the bus or a car to JFK. The Pope is in town and the whole scene is pissing me off.
Almost done

Off to the theater
Yesterday we skipped the music show and had Thai food instead, but today we are not missing "Almost an evening". More here. Tomorrow I should really concentrate on packing and Friday ... down the yellow brick road!

Out of my confort zone
Tuesday, April 15, 2008
I will be working at a center for poor, abandoned, abused old people in a shantytown in Lima. Bad enough you think? It gets worse: I will be working under the direction of a nun! I've been googling like crazy and came upon some posts in a blog and a few pictures.

A condensed post
Sunday, April 13, 2008
Unfortunately I have been less than regular with my posting habits and now I can hardly remember what I've been up to. I apologize for the laundry list like description of my days, but it's the best I can do.
Friday of last week, Pam and I went to see Cornelius' play, which we both found extremely good. At the end, she was in tears. I think it takes guts to write and perform such a personal play, basically exposing yourself to the whole wide world. Granted, there does not seem to be anything to be ashamed of in that boy and a lot to be proud of.
After the play Pam started chit-chatting with a friend of Cornelius who seemed very nice, nice enough for us to join his group of friends at a Brazilian place I've had already been to a couple of times with M.A. Cornelius and his friends are the kind of people you just feel like hugging, cute both inside and out. I think I overheard Pam telling Cornelius that she felt like pinching him. Actually, it was a pity that Marc did not come, he would have blended right in. I made sure to call him as soon as I woke up on Saturday just to rub it in. Obviusly, we closed the bar after approaching the various Cachacas in a systematic way. We could have been scientists.
Saturday started with a hint of a hangover but nothing too bad.
Note to myself: I should research why, under certain circumstances and a certain influence, I always end up looking for a missing person. It always comes a time when I have the distinct feeling somebody is missing, a guy, and that he is in the bathroom, about to come back. So I start looking around for him. Go figure. It might be that I spent most of my life being the way-better half of somebody else or it might be that somebody is really always missing for me, but the fact that I ALWAYS feel like that is very odd indeed.
Wednesday I went to a Meetup gathering and I loved it. Except for one girl that's completely bonkers but we did have a great laugh at her expense when she left. The meetup was at Piada, and the people in attendance were interesting and fun, and so were the owners of the place.
This Friday it was had dinner at Spice in Chelsea with Quique, Juan, Ricardo and Nicolas (another Nicolas, not big Nicolas) and then went to Splash. I had probably been years since I was last there and the place has gone downhill. It's always been a little sleazy, but now it's bridge and tunnel sleazy and I don't think I will be back. Saturday I was exhausted and after brunch I just went shopping with Pamen. And today MAJOR LAZY DAY. It's 8:30 PM and I have yet to assume a vertical position, except for a couple of showers while I colored my hair twice. I spent the whole day shopping on line (I have to perfect the volunteer look, bandannas and hiking boots) and talking with friends on Skype. I laughed so hard with Gabriela that we could barely understand what we were saying. Most of my friends thing that my trip to Peru is hilarious and they are dying for me to come back with a thorough report. I have decided not to take my Macbook with me, I need a little detox and I will be going analogue.
Well, gotta peel myself off the sheet now. Quique is coming home for dinner. I will be leaving on Friday and so far I have plans for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I'll be one exhausted volunteer when I get there.
Check out the swimsuit I bought (I got it in black). What I really wanted was this or this but they are Norma Kamali and too expensive. The Esther Williams is the same kind of look and it will have to do.

A grand time
Thursday, April 10, 2008
I had a wonderful time at my first Meetup. And then I joined Quique for a few cocktails in Chelsea, at a place I had already been. Lately, every place I go, I've been before, and I am not even the one chosing the venues. Guess I've been around a while already.
Anyway, I am very happy now, and mellow, and ready to go to sleep.
A real post will be uploaded soon. So far, it is residing and growing on my desktop.

Love letter to my bank

I've been trying for 2 days now to enroll in your new system and I only get system error messages.
As per the instruction on your website, I tried webchat, it's not working.
I tried calling and talking to a member representative, the call is not forwarded.
I tried getting to the branch personally, in the middle of a working day, and there's a long line of people in what I assume are situations similar to mine.
So far I have missed my loan payment, my VISA card payment and probably my rent payment too and I have no idea when I will be able to access my money again.
Please note the emphasis on MY money.
I would appreciate some kind of prompt solution.
